Individual Awards
Any individual, or group of individuals (such as a mine rescue team or a mine safety committee) that has contributed to the overall health and safety programme of a mine in a manner that has led to a significant improvement in conditions at that mine may be nominated by the mine's manager or the employee representatives for an Individual Award. The MHSC will then assess and determine whether or not such a nomination is warranted. Any specific acts of bravery will also be considered for this award.

Medal

The MHSC awards a medal in recognition of individuals or groups who have contributed to the overall health and safety of the mining industry.

Information to be supplied

When any award is recommended it must be made clear that it is in respect of a specific action that was of service to others and not an act that was in the interest of the person who performed it, such as saving his own life.

Any nomination must be adequately motivated to allow the MHSC (LINK to http://www.mhsc.org.za) to make an informed decision.
