Renewable Energy Market Transformation Project
National Science Week May 2008: Invitation to
Renewable Energy Awareness Campaign.
The Department of Minerals and Energy, through the Directorate New and
Renewable Energy, will participate in the 2008 National Science Week. It
will host two workshops for three days various at venues. The Department
will also take part in more exhibitions dealing with mine surveying and
renewable energy, in conjunction with the Free State Department of

The Department has just released draft Regulations in respect of the maximum retail price of liquified petroleum gas supplied to residential customers, for public comment. Comments should be received no later than

The Department has released the
Energy Security Master Plan on Electricity. The Master Plan is premised on
achieving certain goals that have been set for the electricity sector. Due to
the uncertainty over the planning horizon, some assumptions are made regarding
demand projections and the economic outlook. After consideration of the Energy
White Paper and the regulatory policy framework, the current electricity
generation, transmission and distribution sectors are appraised, in terms of the
challenges confronting these sectors.
The Department has released the
Energy
Security Master Plan on Liquid Fuels. In the short term the Master Plan
focuses on developing supply chain solutions to South Africa’s liquid fuels
challenges, management of liquid fuels demand and emergency response tactics.
The long - term approach is broader and begins to integrate supply, demand,
macroeconomics, geopolitics and climate change.
The Department of Minerals and Energy has undertaken a
feasibility study on Tradable Renewable Energy Certification
System (TRECS).

With effect from Wednesday, 02 April 2008 adjustment to the fuel price will be as follows:
Retail prices
Petrol 91 ULP: 68c per litre increase
Petrol 93 ULP & LRP: 67c per litre increase
Petrol 95 ULP & LRP: 66c per litre increase
Illuminating paraffin: 157c per litre increase in Single Maximum National
Retail price (SMNRP)
Wholesale prices
Diesel 0.05% Sulphur: 128c per litre increase
Diesel 0.005% Sulphur: 130c per litre increase
Illuminating Paraffin: 118c per litre increase
